NICEIC
The National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting (NICEIC) is the UK’s independent regulatory body for the electrical engineering industry.

A voluntary, non-profit-making organisation, NICEIC’s sole aim is to protect consumers from electrical work which has not been carried out in compliance with current health and safety regulations and thereby protecting consumers against unsafe electrical work.

Established in 1956, NICEIC maintains and publishes the Roll of Approved Contractors which is reviewed every year. Each contractor is inspected to ensure that their work complies with the current national safety standard BS 7671 (the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IEE)’s Wiring Regulations) and all other relevant technical standards.

Guarantee of Standards:
NICEIC also offers a Guarantee of Standards whose primary objectives are to:

• Further the aims of NICEIC in the protection of electricity consumers including the general public.
• Make sure that local authorities, commercial organisations and specifiers employ NICEIC Approved Contractors to carry out all electrical installations, thereby ensuring high standards.
• Extend the scope of the NICEIC complaints procedure where the Approved Contractor may have failed to undertake essential remedial work with regard to safety.
• Enable Approved Contractors tendering for contracts to publicise the fact that they are not only NICEIC approved, but also that their work complies with current electrical work standards.
