PAT Testing
Any working environment which uses electrical appliances such as computers, printers, cash tills, microwaves, kettles, vacuum cleaners and many others; has a responsibility to make sure that such equipment complies to all necessary health and safety regulations.

Here at Firehawk, we will carry out all such portable appliance testing i.e. the testing of appliances which are connected to the power supply by means of a plug and socket. An integral part of any health and safety policies, PAT testing should be carried out regularly to ensure the provision of a safe working environment in any type of premises.

We provide PAT testing in Manchester, Salford, Failsworth, Oldham, Stockport, Bolton, Bury and throughout the North West.

The 1974 Health and Safety at Work Act charges employers, employees and the self-employed with the responsibility of ensuring that the workplace is safe for all persons working on the premises.

Frequency of PAT testing will depend upon the appliance itself, from the smallest item of electrical equipment such as a mobile phone charger, to the largest distribution systems. Certain places of work such as construction sites, industrial premises and commercial kitchens may need monthly checks, whereas restricted area systems may need only to be inspected on a two-year cycle.

When should you consider PAT?
In addition to the above, the most important reasons for carrying out PAT testing are:

• Compliance with Electricity at Work Regulations
• Compliance with Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations
• In order to minimise risk of fire and personal injury caused by electrical appliances
• In order to satisfy your insurance company
• Compliance with all Health and Safety requirements and ISO standards
• Compliance with Quality Assurances

What is involved in PAT Testing?
Once the Fire Officers or Health and Safety Inspectors arrive to inspect your premises, they will ask to see previous PAT Testing records. There are two parts to PAT Testing, including a formal visual inspection and electrical testing. The formal visual inspection is paramount to the process, as it is during this part of the testing that the majority of dangerous faults will be identified. Although there will be a little disruption to your staff, we do our best to make sure that this is minimal and that they can return to work as quickly as possible.
